If we do the .5 asset value for prospects, I think we should allow the other teams to draft extra guys at the end of the draft to even up the assets. They won't be very valuable prospects but having a re-draft of some sort means teams should have an equal amount of assets.
Do I want change? Obviously not because it hurts my team the most (along with Seadawg). Does the league need change to help it last longer? Absolutely.

I think what needs to be established then is if I keep 12 active players and 8 prospects for example for a total of 16 Assets in terms of 1 point for active and 0.5 point for prospect then essentially I will have less active players and more prospects than some. I think as long as we all end up with 12 active forwards, 6 active defenseman, 2 active goalies and 8 bench players it shouldn't matter if I have a few more prospects than a team that chose to keep 16 active players. Chances are very high that the team that went in that direction is better.

It's 14 active players. I'm going to stress having everyone start with the same amount of assets.

Give me an example of your 14 assets Adam :

I say that last comment with deliberate condescension:
Your keepers include names like Crosby perry stamkos zetterberg weber etc etc etc.
And kudos to you for acquiring all those names but my names include:
Bozak Nugen-Hopkins landeskog etc etc
Now why do I think I'm at a disadvantage you may ask? Umm that is because I am. Now I may have put myself there but after being in this league for a couple of years I have learned a thing or two. Starting with your team Adam you are a good commish and you are prompt when it comes to commish duties but your team is so stacked that it would take a miracle for myself or anyone else to catch you and the worst part is the other teams will never get cracks at guys from your roster because we can't afford them. We can't pay to play with your shiny toys. I'm not trying to single anyone out but it sounds to me like you think if you have your top 14 keepers vs mine or anyone else's that somehow levels the playing field because you don't have any prospects that are similar to the bottom feeding teams. You don't have a mackinnon or Drouin or trouba or Reilly or John Gibson or robin Lehner to speak of. So you figure that you've go your best 14 and mine should be the same. But it isn't. Then we go to the draft and I select along with everyone else the scrubs and scraps that didn't make the cut while you still get to hang onto all your top dogs. So if I want to keep 10 active guys at one point and 8 prospects and half a point vs your 14 active assets that are mostly all stars I'm being unfair?

To even further cement my case for anyone who wants to look. Go and take a good look at the past history winners. Jersey18's wins every year and it's not even close. Even last year with a half season if you work it out it's like a 100-200 point margin every year. So what's the point?

I'm not saying my 14 assets are the same as yours. But they shouldn't be. This redraft isn't going to completely solve the imbalance but it will close the gap. If you have 18 assets and I have 14, I'm saying I get 4 prospects AT THE END of the prospect draft. They would be bottom of the barrel prospects.

That is why I suggest turning this to a limited keeper instead. You keep a limited number of Roster players each year and you keep your prospects. We keep a 20 rosters and next year 16 and then 12, till we get to a predetermined amount of Roster keepers. The top teams that are winning now are going to lose some of their BENCH this year which hurts them a little, and the lower teams with a bunch of prospects get to keep them to help improve in the future and lessen the gap to the top teams.
Next year I am sure the top teams will trade some of their drop players for either higher end players or some prospects. but as each year passes and the amount of keepers decreases the draft each year becomes that much more important and even teams that have the top stars will need to draft well to win. But it gives every team some hope going forward, if you have prospects hopefully some turn into stars, if you have stars you get to keep a full lineup and only lose depth of which you can redraft some anyway.
Right now we have teams with about 70 assets and some with 30ish assets. Redrafting and giving all the same amount of Assets hurts the teams with the most current assets which are the lower teams with the prospects. I think teams are forced to promote some prospects starting this year or at least next year anyway. If given a choice and everyone was able keep 14 but I could only keep 7 but I could pick any 7 players in the league I would easily take the top 7 and fill in with some depth after or trade one of my superstars that I kept to gain a bunch of solid depth players and the top teams will most likely be able to get the superstars as they can trade away 2-3 stars to get the superstar keeper while the rest of the league would keep the 2-3 players they gain in the trade. The top teams keep their advantage in the high end players and the lower teams keep their advantage of having lots of Prospects.
