See my concern is the activity. The top teams have no reason to trade as there is no cap (etc) to force them to work prospects in or something. My other leave is a 14 team dynasty 20M above the cap. 3C 3LW 3RW 3F 5D 2G 5B. Then you have a 30 man ahl roster and then draft picks (juniors) that you can hold for 3 years. Then release or promote them. One team has ovi sid Malkin Rask backstrom on the same team with many other good players. He still hasn't won! But he's active and has had to trade a fee better players or "ahl" them due to cap constraints. Basically it gives everyone a shot to win and forces activity. Its a H2H league but in this sense it makes my point. Again putting a cap in isn't fair and that's why you start high and slide it down over a period of time to make it more fair for a guy like adam. Guys 9 trades in a year is sad. Look back at the beginning. Some bad trades sure but at least there was activity I don't feel a team at the top has any reason to be active and until their star players retire the league is almost settled for 10 years already

I know I won't have time to run a league with a cap. I think active GM's are all we need personally. There aren't any teams in this league without hope (nothing on roster, no good prospects).
Teams at the top will eventually falter. I have seen it in 2 of my 4 leagues with my teams.

There's a pretty wide gap from #2 to the rest of the league. I think there should still be a discussion with all GMs.

I'm open to changes where it is best for the league as a whole. The UFHL (I think that's what it was called) blew up because of this. There were the haves and the have nots. There was an uprising of the have nots and the league folded.

[quotewburnsy00" source="/post/1548/thread" timestamp="1397017429"]I'm open to changes where it is best for the league as a whole. The UFHL (I think that's what it was called) blew up because of this. There were the haves and the have nots. There was an uprising of the have nots and the league folded. [/quote] The last thing that I would want to do is cause an uprising etc. Not my intention at all but I think its quite clear that the league is heavily unbalanced. Because of this, at least partially, there is a lack of activity. Because of the lack of activity and imbalance, the league is struggling IMO. 9,trades last year is sad, and of the 9 trades (18 teams incolved) jersey and burnsy were in 5 each and I was in 4. That leaves 7 of the 10 GMs making a total of 2 trades all year. Some of the GMs were inactive and some are brand new so that is scewed, but still. My point is there needs to be something to 'spark" this league again. A cap, a redraft of sorts, something to bring the balance back at least a little bit. I mean this thread has been going for what 4-5 days now and really akkei brought this up in a different thread, and half or more of the GMs haven't logged in or put their thought into this. To me that is troubling and kinda proves these points in spades

I agree. The only time I hear from the top teams is when they want to dump garbage and want an arm and a leg for it. Trades are usually quite imbalanced because of this. I find better deals on the waiver wire.

All of the leagues I have been in are imbalanced. But things will change.
What we need is for everyone to be active. That's the issue in my opinion. I know some teams are much better than others but things will change when prospects start to blossom. I'm open to discussing possible changes but it's tricky because like Ben said, another league folded because of this exact discussion.

Looking back a bit I see where adam is saying this. There were a lot more trades prior to last year. The issue becomes what if the GMs that aren't active stay inactive? We'll be back where we are now

If that's the case, then we kick those guys out. But I think if they want to stay, they should be given the opportunity for one more season and hopefully they be as active as they say they're going to be.

I still think there should be some type of change. A sliding cap to me would make sense. I also think having a NHL AHL and Juniors makes more sense. Then you're limiting all year how many guys you can roster and call up etc. It allows injuries to play a role. What if we kept it as is but instead of a bench you had say a 10 man bench. You can call them up but to send them from NHL to bench or AHL they would need to clear waivers based on salary (say over 2m as an example). If their elc as an example they don't need to clear? Its not a cap but it allows salary to play a role as far as call ups etc? Another thought would be changing from 12 forwards to something like 3C 3LW 3RW 3F? That could help balance as well as you need to take into consideration position eligibility not just points etc?

I have no problem with making some changes in this league, but I don't want it to be in a cap league. It would be way too hard to implement at this stage, imo.
I think forcing everyone to drop to 12 assets and then have a re-draft would be the best thing to do. And I really like akkei's idea of a prospect being worth .5 of an asset. The only potential issue with this suggestion is that some of us would have more roster picks and some would have more prospect picks. For example, I would definitely keep 12 roster players (I have no prospects), so I'd need to draft 16 more players. Someone who chooses to protect only 8 roster players would have to draft 20 roster players. Would the second person draft the extra 8 players at the end of the regular draft? That works for me, but we have to agree on this beforehand.
I also strongly agree with akkei that picks should not be tradable for the re-draft.

To also play devils advocate if I may; I have been in this league for atleast two years and every once in awhile there is a major influx of activity for a little stretch then teams decide to stay as is for a bit to see if they are happy where they are at. I for one had a pretty decent team at one time but it really under performed so I stripped it down and I am rebuilding. I will now start to assemble my younger players and start moving up the ranks again. This time next year I will likely be out of the runnings for A top draft pick in 2015. But is have to start using some off prospects wisely and picking up a couple veterans heading into next season. I don't really want all the work I've put into my rebuild to be for nothing if this is what it comes down to. I think generally there are three divisions in this league. The haves the have nots and those in between!

If we can each only keep 12 assets, there are going to be a lot of very good players left unprotected and the re-draft will be quite exciting. I also think the teams will be more equal heading into the draft. Most of the teams have at least 12 strong assets. What separates the top teams from the bottom teams is depth, but that just means the top teams will have better players to leave unprotected for the re-draft.
As far as I'm concerned, this is what we have to do:
Step 1 - we need to make a decision. Are we going to do this? Let's come up with some suggestions and put it to a vote. That gives everyone time to leave the league if they don't like the outcome of the vote. Keep in mind that whatever decision is made, Adam has the ultimate veto-power. He is the commish and we can't do anything without his consent, unless someone else wants to start a new league, collect money, create a website, and so on, which in all honesty won't happen. Heck, I'm not even interested in being in a league that doesn't have Adam as the commish. I've been in leagues with Adam for many years now and he has earned my trust and respect.
Step 2 - find replacements for teams without owners (are there any at the moment?) and for the teams with inactive owners who don't commit to becoming active again next year
Step 3 - we all submit a list of protected and unprotected players (I suggest posting the lists on the website so everyone can review them and determine who will be available in the draft). No matter what decision is made, it will result in a list of protected and unprotected players.
Step 4 - have the re-draft well in advance of the prospect draft. Whatever decision is made, we will have some sort of re-draft.

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of a massive re draft either. If there can't be a cap to protect the upper teams a redraft can't happen to protect the rebuilding teams. If we were to re draft a vacant team that would be different
